The Mountain Goats - This Year

I've been saving this one. I, for one, need to listen to it multiple times through January. Really crank it until you know how to sing along, then play it louder.

I ... hate this song. Yes, hate.

Tyles, well... I guess you're entitled to your opinion. But I didn't find it grating. Sure, the vox could've been more convincing for the message, but I can't bring myself to hate it.

The band's name has "goat" in the title, for God's sake.

Tyler's wrong! Even us curmudgeons shouldn't be able to deny such a chorus.

It's not even necessarily an anti-Mountain Goats thing.

(OK, it is, but just a little bit. I just don't particularly like the guy, or his "deep" songwriting.)

Maybe you should go back and listen ... to the Weeds Soundtrack!

I feel compelled to clarify -- it's not that I think the Mountain Goats are objectively bad. The music just does not move me, at all, and this song in particular bothers me (as quite possibly the No. 1 requested song on the local indie station, especially come December). So, hate -- but without judgment.

"Hate without judgment" is clearly the most generous I've ever hoped to get from my posts. You are tough but fair, Whisk E. Bear.
