HAPPY BERFDAY, OWY!
I wanted to post this before I hit the sack. I have a long day at my current training evolution right now, so I might not be around much. If I am, I'll edit this post accordingly.
For now, it's been 365 days since Tyles set this ball in motion. I posted how the rotation has changed over the course of one year... And here we are. Letting the special needs kid post the birthday song. Since I've been harping to all my less-than-stellar-intellectually fellow Marines about how much I enjoy watching The Ladykillers, I found this... most fitting for the occasion. Shine on, fellow music nuts. Let it shine on.

Lou Reed - Perfect Day
One everybody knows. And Eric may have indirectly started a theme for this week.
I was trying to compile a list of the most depressing songs that have ever tickled my eardrums. And amidst this, a genius of a friend made the glorious observation:
"Beez, you listen to some really depressing shit."
I asked the question for him, basically... "How do you bottle up these negative emotions you draw from this music and project such a sunny disposition?"
Easy... I'm saving it all for the best time to let it go. God help the world.
Thought you all might enjoy the Boyzone cameo.
P.S. - I found Emmylou Harris astonishingly hot in this video. Holy shit.

The Evolution of "Wild Thing"
Maybe I should have waited a couple months, considering the title... But that's irrelevant now.
That drew... Getting me on a Condo Fucks/Troggs trip. I ended up picking up a Troggs record last time I was out and about on payday. And this latest little indulgence into music history is the result.
So's, the original was written by Chip Taylor circa 1965 and recorded first by The Wild Ones in the same year.
We all know how well The Troggs did in '66, moving then to Monterey Pop where Jimi Hendrix added his obviously acid-fueled twist on the song before setting his guitar on fire.
Most notably for me, though, isn't the Major League rip by X.
It's this, the point to which the decade of the 80s allowed this song to fully degenerate.
(I still like it.)
Where's the song now? In the hands of one Prince, disturbing the very fabric of space and time like he always does.

Melpo Mene - I Adore You
This one is for Benne, since he is adored.
A charming enough song, from yet another Swedish singer with a thing for dreamy folk music. It is cute, but then the cracks start to show. Wait, is this just an ad for Louis Vuitton? Well, sort-of, at least the video is a clip from a show sponsored by Vuitton by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, who's probably best known for the terribly NSFW piece 'My Lonesome Cowboy', which sold for $15.2 Million. I can only assume someone was sent to pick it up for the buyer, its just not the kind of piece you allow yourself to be photographed with.
So there you go, Benne, anime and cute folk music.

Canned Heat - Going Up the Country & Henry Thomas - Bull Doze Blues
I've always been one of those "songs behind the song" kind of people. Dunno why... but research has always involved allowing me to be aware of why things are the way they are, or why they even exist at all.
Hence my stance on existence period... But that's another day, another cup of joe.
A few weeks ago, I posted a pair of songs on the link side of my happy little Facebook profile. One was an (albeit rare) bright and hopeful blues song that became one of the quintessential Woodstock anthems that I never knew the name of until I decided to look it up.
The second was a blues song of heartbreak that few people know the first song came from, notably the flute melody that almost anyone familiar with what happened in America in the 60s has heard one time or another. (I for one remember the Woodstock 25th Anniversary Pepsi commercial back in '94 that featured it.)
[There was a lot of self-loathing emo trash/bullshit I'm not accustomed to posting in the original post.]
The first song was Canned Heat's "Goin' Up the Country."
The second was performed by Henry Thomas, right before the Great Depression in 1928...

God Lives Underwater - From Your Mouth
A day late, but I figured I'd contribute right all up on top of Tyles' just cause.
I was severely confused by Aaron's post a couple weeks ago, so I held off on my suicide post (two fellow Marines I knew personally in two years now) and went on leave. Now I've transcended to this thing. I was drawn in by the original video of a guy un-eating stuff that doesn't want to be embedded here, and it's the only non-sappy song I listen to these days because I've been emasculated by a love interest two thousand miles away.
Goat.
Not the hot dog guy.

Jean Ritchie - Careless Love
Freshly returned from my musical sojourn, my journey through the hinderlands of music near lost to time and disinterest, I return to bring attention to the very beating heart of American music craft. Jazz? Bah, I think not. I speak, lovingly, of Folk.
Unrequited love is pretty much the gift that keeps giving, isn't it? A peaceful song about flashing a little cleavage is just a bonus, really.

Bob Dylan - Paths of Victory
It was everything I could do to not post William Shatner's efforts on "Rocket Man." Don't ask. I'm sure you can figure it out.
But I wanna take care of this before I hit the sack.
My acquisition of "Watchmen" (thanks a lot for making me obsessed), its soundtrack, and doing all the research possible to figure out exactly what "The Times" was trying to say when he recorded it led me to what is to follow, but first...
I got promoted this morning. I am now a Corporal of Marines. Any of you familiar with the rank structure of USMC should be aware that this is where actual responsibility starts, and the "junior Marine don't know nothin'" excuse goes out the door.
And this is a direct quote from someone asking me what it's like to be a Corporal now:
"I've had my gripes about the Marine Corps, but I have them to thank for at least allowing me the opportunity to feel I've done something in life."
(Next formation run, I might turn this into a cadence.)
