Not even a remotely original sentiment but I guess someone had to post this one. There are a lot of reasons why Haiti has existed in a constant state of poverty for its entire history, but the seed was planted when the French government demanded (and eventually received, with interest) reparations from the Haitians for, you know, fighting for and winning their freedom from slavery
